The main thought process behind this design is to create a storage vessel that sits flush next to other copies of itself. This necessitated keeping the mechanism holding the top and bottom halves together to be located inside the vessel itself. In addition to storage, this could be used for waste disposal and as a compost box. This last usage was inspired by The Martian, as, in a worst case scenario, food and human waste can be composted to produce fertilizer. This container can be used as a storage space where minimal air leakage is important. Lastly, this could be used as a thermos. This is because there would be a layer of air between the outer and inner shells from the 3D print. This allows food and beverages to stay hot or cool, depending on what the user wants.
