My design for the Mars Medical Challenge is called a “Surgical Multi-Tool.” The device has many tools that astronauts can use to perform basic surgical care in the event of an emergency. The device comes with scissors, tweezers, a needle, and a scalpel. The tools come on a ring, similar to a key chain, that the astronauts can keep with them in case they need to perform emergency surgery. The multi-tool will be printed in aluminum. Once printed, the tools are put on the ring and the gap in the ring should be glued shut so the tools do not fall off.
