I 3-D printed a reflex hammer. When you tap your leg with the hammer, your leg is supposed to move. My creation falls into the category of diagnostics and is important because people need to know if their leg reflexes are working properly. Here is how it works. The whack makes your thigh muscles stretch. This stretch delivers a message to the spinal cord. The message tells your muscle to contract and causes your leg to kick. This reflex test tells the doctors if you have a spinal cord or back injury. If your knee doesn't kick, you may have damaged nerves or a disease. Once the doctors find out that something is wrong, they can try to fix it. My project is an important diagnostic tool. It will help the astronauts complete the tasks at hand with good, strong, working reflexes.
